The Rostraver Ice Garden
Interior of the Rostraver Ice Garden.
As the fourth largest indoor ice arena in Western Pennsylvania the Rostraver Ice Garden opened in 1965. It has been a home to numerous organizations over the years including the practice facility for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Currently it also serves as the home ice for the Mon Valley Thunder, Ringgold High School, Frazier High School, Elizabeth Forward High School and Serra Catholic High School.
Hockey has not been the only sport that has taken place inside the Ice Garden as professional boxing, wrestling, arena football and bull riding also have over the years. Other events have included concerts, circuses, comedy shows and at one time the site of the Westmoreland County Fair. Although, the Ice Gardens claim to fame may come from when former professional boxer Cassius Clay fought there during his amateur career.
Another amenity to the Rostraver Ice Garden is Murph’s Pub, which is a restaurant and lounge located on the second level of the Ice Garden. Fans will have the opportunity to watch games from Murph’s Pub as it overlooks the entire ice surface.
